The city of queens is situated in the hills and valleys surrounding creek Séd at the crossing of three small landscapes; it is bordered by Bakony ridge on north, by Balaton Highland on south, and by Veszprém upland, the NW extension of Mezőföld lowland on east.

The Veszprém Castle along with Esztergom and Székesfehérvár Castles was one of our earliest castles. For sure, it was there in the age of Géza; however, some say it had already been standing there even before the conquest. Although the city of Veszprém was built on 5 hills, it is more likely that settlement in the valley had occurred before hills got populated. Over the centuries, the castle and the surrounding, at that time sovereigne municipalities have been united as a single settlement. Being the bishop's and county's seat, Veszprém has played key role in the region both in terms of administration and religion. Buying power of Veszprém region's population is the fourth biggest in the country. Veszprém, seat of the county can be approached from Székesfehérvár and Szombathely on main road no. 8, from Győr on main road no. 82, and from Balatonfüred on main road no. 73. Veszprém was to first city to have a full road ring built around it. Since then, main road no. 8 has run on the edge of the city meaning that the traffic in downtown has gotten much lighter. Some sections of main road no. 8 (to Márkó in west and to Várpalota in east) have been extended to 4 lanes throughout the past few years. M8 motorway leading toward Dunaújváros is currently being planned.

Veszprém consists of 14 districts and 11 territorial units not classified as district. Dózsaváros is the centre of districts and located on the boundary of Jutasi road housing estate. The center provides a truly beautiful sight on the castle. As a result of that, new residential parks are still being built in this area nowadays.
